Understanding the Census - PART 1

The Census Tells a Story About our Community

Did you know that Johnson County, KS is the largest that it has ever been? We’re currently adding approximately 10,000 people per year! That means we’ve achieved the same pre-Great Recession growth rates from over a decade ago.  The latest data indicates that we’ve grown by approximately 50,000 people since the 2010 Census. This means that we’ll likely surpass the 600,000 mark in the first half of 2018!
When it comes to education, it’s no secret that Johnson County has some of the best schools in Kansas, and even the country.  In fact, according to the 2018 list of best school districts in the US published by Niche, the Blue Valley School District ranks 77th of almost 12,000 districts in the US! On top of that, over 52.8% of our citizens (age 25 and over) hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher, compared to just 29.8% of all Americans.  That’s more than Chicago (35.6%), Denver (45%), Dallas (30.2%), and Minneapolis (47.4%)!
